It’s not everyday that a local neighbourhood rooftop grabs social media attention and becomes talk of the town. However, this Jalandhar rooftop is not an ordinary one. It has an ‘international’ twist to it.

After spending 26 years living in New York City, Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Gurjeet Singh Matharu decided to bring a slice of it to the fourth floor of his residence in the Kishanpura area.

The aim was to stay connected to a place that has become an integral part of his life.

People from nearby areas, and even farther away, have been visiting the site to see the unusual installation up close.

Many have even described it as a ‘mini New York’ experience right in Punjab.

Reactions were quick and divided.

“Mostly in Chandigarh and Mohali they build water tank in the shape of tractor, ball and other shapes now he makes Statue of Liberty,” a user reacted. Another commented, “Looks like a mini New York in Punjab, quite creative.” A third wrote, “What was the need?”
