BUDAPEST- Wizz Air (W6) is restructuring its future fleet plans as it reduces its Airbus A321XLR orders and shifts multiple deliveries, following strategic changes linked to Budapest (BUD) and the discontinued Abu Dhabi (AUH) operation.
The airline is adjusting its long-term growth approach in response to evolving network needs and capacity targets.
Wizz Air is delaying 88 Airbus aircraft and converting dozens of A321XLR orders to A321neos, aligning fleet expansion with a more controlled growth path centered around Budapest.
Wizz Air Reduces A321XLR Orders
Wizz Air reduces its Airbus A321XLR orders from 47 aircraft to just 11. The airline has converted 36 of these orders into standard A321neo models, reflecting a shift away from long-range expansion. According to Flight Global, five of the remaining A321XLRs have already been delivered to the carrier.
The reduction follows the decision to end Wizz Air’s Abu Dhabi (AUH) operation, which had been a key destination for several XLR aircraft.
The airline aims to streamline its network strategy while maintaining flexibility with the more versatile A321neo.
Delivery Delays for 88 Aircraft
Wizz Air is postponing the delivery of 88 Airbus aircraft originally expected by fiscal 2030. These jets will now arrive by fiscal 2033.
The airline states that this revision is intended to moderate capacity growth and support a more stable long-term fleet rollout.
Wizz Air emphasizes that its commitment to the remaining backlog of 273 Airbus aircraft remains unchanged.
Transition to an A320neo Fleet
The airline plans to operate a fully A320neo family fleet by 2029. This transition aligns with its targeted seat capacity growth rate of 10 to 12 percent through 2030.
The revised delivery schedule supports a more sustainable and profitable growth trajectory, ensuring the airline expands at a controlled, efficient pace.
