If your family prefers cider donuts and cute costumes over jump scares and haunted houses, the Pacific Northwest has plenty of fall getaways that deliver all the fun without the fright.
From friendly haunts in historic lodges to pumpkin decorating by the bay, these destinations make it easy to celebrate the season together—no screams required.
The Lodge at St. Edward State Park
Few places blend history and Halloween charm quite like The Lodge at St. Edward. This former seminary-turned-boutique hotel invites families to take part in two delightfully mysterious events this fall.
Haunted Halls of St. Edward runs daily from October 26 through November 2, transforming the Lodge’s storied corridors into a playful ghost hunt. Guests of all ages (and even pets) can search for hidden spirits throughout the building from 3 to 6 p.m., with art stations and pumpkin carving available on Fridays and Saturdays at the nearby Environmental Education and Research Center. Successful “ghost hunters” can win candy and even the grand prize of a complimentary two-night stay.
For those who like their mysteries a bit more interactive, the Murder in the Pacific Northwest Package offers an entire weekend of sleuthing, suspense, and surprises from October 24 to 26. This package includes two nights of accommodations, three days of immersive mystery, and all meals—an ideal autumn getaway for families with older kids looking for a creative, not-too-spooky adventure.
Semiahmoo Resort
When it comes to scenic fall escapes, Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine checks all the boxes: sweeping water views, crisp coastal air, and plenty of family-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained.
The resort’s Kids Camp-In Package brings the fun indoors, complete with a cozy tent set up on one of the queen beds, plush bedding, and a s’mores kit for the perfect end-of-day treat. Beyond the room, families can enjoy daily movies at the Discovery Theater, yard games, complimentary bikes, and a year-round pool and hot tub.
Semiahmoo also celebrates the season with a Witch Hat Party on October 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Great Blue Heron Grill—a craft-filled afternoon complete with spooky snacks and witch hat making for the whole family.
Icicle Village Resort
Tucked in the heart of Leavenworth, Icicle Village Resort is a perfect fall retreat for families craving mountain views and Bavarian charm. The resort’s cozy suites, on-site dining, and wide array of activities—from mini-golf to an indoor game room—make it an easy pick for a weekend away.
From October 26 through November 2, families can take part in the Mini-Golf Costume Contest, a lighthearted way to enjoy the season. Guests are encouraged to play a round in costume and submit photos for a chance to win a two-night stay and two passes to the Tumwater Twister at Leavenworth Adventure Park.
Lakedale Resort
Autumn in the San Juan Islands feels a little more magical, and Lakedale Resort is extending that feeling this year with its Savor the San Juans promotion. Now through October 31, guests can enjoy 20% off stays across all accommodations—including the Lake House, Log Cabins, Yurts, RV sites, and campsites, which are open for the first time ever through October.
The celebration highlights the islands’ harvest season, inviting visitors to explore local farms, savor fall flavors, and unwind amid the brilliant autumn colors reflected in Lakedale’s peaceful lakes.
Seabrook Halloweekend
Along Washington’s Pacific coast, the beach town of Seabrook transforms into a storybook scene each October, offering a Halloween celebration that’s full of heart and light on fright. Known for its walkable streets, ocean views, and tight-knit community, Seabrook’s Halloweekend is the perfect excuse for a fall family getaway.
The festivities begin on Friday, October 24, with a Pumpkin Pick-Up at Crescent Park (3–5 p.m.), where families can choose their pumpkins—just $10 each, while supplies last—and get ready for the weekend’s carving contest.
On Saturday, October 25, the fun really comes alive with the Frightfully Fun Fest from noon to 3 p.m. at Crescent Park. Expect classic small-town charm with face painting, balloon artists, a bounce house, caramel apples, live music, and more. Later that afternoon, the Costume Parade begins at 3:30 p.m., winding through Front Street and Market Street before ending at Town Hall—dogs in costume are not only welcome, they’re encouraged.
Families can also enter the Pumpkin Carving Contest by 2 p.m., with winners announced at 4 p.m. before the grand finale: trick-or-treating in the Town Center and nearby neighborhoods, continuing until dusk. For those who can’t make it in person, Seabrook even hosts a Virtual Costume Contest on October 25–26, where participants can share photos online for a chance to win prizes, with winners announced on Halloween.
With its peaceful coastal backdrop, charming streets, and strong sense of community, Seabrook’s Halloweekend is everything you want in a fall celebration—festive, friendly, and full of seaside magic.
Plan Your Not-So-Spooky Escape
From friendly ghost hunts and witch hat parties to cozy camp-ins and scenic island getaways, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate fall without the frights.
Whether you’re seeking family-friendly festivities close to home or a weekend road trip through the Pacific Northwest, these destinations prove that Halloween magic doesn’t always need a scare to be memorable.
