NEWS FLASH
Zagreb Airport has announced upcoming maintenance works on its main runway and Taxiway A, scheduled to begin in May 2026 and last approximately 45 days. The works will affect the threshold area of Runway 04 as well as the intersection of Taxiways A and B, with the objective of ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of the airport’s operational surfaces used for aircraft take-offs and landings. During the construction period, operational procedures will be temporarily adjusted. Runway 04/22 will be shortened from 3.252 metres to 2.512 metres, with the threshold of Runway 04 displaced, reducing the available take-off and landing distances. Taxiways A and B will be closed to traffic, while low visibility procedures will be suspended. Only visual and non-precision approaches will be permitted during this time.
As a result of the reduced operational capacity, longer runway occupancy times are expected, along with occasional use of backtrack manoeuvres for both departures and arrivals. The available runway width will remain unchanged at 45 metres. Detailed information, including the exact start date of the works, will be published at a later stage.
The measures may impact maximum take-off weight for wide-body aircraft, which could result in limitations to fuel, cargo or passenger loads. In May 2024, Zagreb Airport conducted work on its runway lighting system, which resulted in the cancellation of over 100 Ryanair flights.
