A Lufthansa airliner with 184 people on board made a safe unscheduled landing at Athens International Airport late Monday shortly after taking off for Munich.
Lufthansa said all passengers evacuated the plane by inflatable chutes and in the process three people were lightly injured and taken to hospital for first aid.
Flight LH1753 from Athens to Munich was airborne for a few minutes when an indication of a malfunction came on, and the pilots requested and received permission to return.
Lufthansa said the chute protocol was followed to expedite disembarkation due to a strong smell at the rear of the cabin.
There was no immediate information on whether there had been a fire. The plane was carrying 177 passengers and seven crew members.
